Porcelli The Hamiltonian structures of the incompressible ideal fluid, including entropy advection, and magnetohydrodynamics are investigated by making use of Dirac’s theory of constrained Hamiltonian systems. A Dirac bracket for these systems is constructed by assuming a primary constraint of constant density. The resulting bracket is seen to naturally project onto solenoidal velocity fields. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The Geometric Structure of Complex Fluids

This paper develops the theory of affine Euler-Poincaré and affine Lie-Poisson reductions and applies these processes to various examples of complex fluids, including Yang-Mills and Hall magnetohydrodynamics for fluids and superfluids, spin glasses, microfluids, and liquid crystals. As a consequence of the Lagrangian approach, the variational formulation of the equations is determined. On the H...

An Alternating Direction Implicit Method for Modeling of Fluid Flow

This research includes of the numerical modeling of fluids in two-dimensional cavity. The cavity flow is an important theoretical problem. In this research, modeling was carried out based on an alternating direction implicit via Vorticity-Stream function formulation. It evaluates different Reynolds numbers and grid sizes. Therefore, for the flow field analysis and prove of the ability of the sc...

Hamiltonian analysis of interacting fluids

Ideal fluid dynamics is studied as a relativistic field theory with particular stress on its hamiltonian structure. The Schwinger condition, whose integrated version yields the stress tensor conservation, is explicitly verified both in equal-time and light-cone coordinate systems. We also consider the hamiltonian formulation of fluids interacting with an external gauge field. The complementary ...

Melting Heat Transfer Analysis on Magnetohydrodynamics Buoyancy Convection in an Enclosure: A Numerical Study

The roll of melting heat transfer on magnetohydrodynamic natural convection in a square enclosure with heating of bottom wall is examined numerically in this article. The dimensionless governing partial differential equations are transformed into vorticity and stream function formulation and then solved using the finite difference method (FDM). The effects of thermal Rayleigh number (Ra</em...

Applications of Nambu Mechanics to Systems of Hydrodynamical Type II

In this paper we further investigate some applications of Nambu mechanics in hydrodynamical systems. Using the Euler equations for a rotating rigid body Névir and Blender [J. Phys. A 26 (1993), L1189–L1193] had demonstrated the connection between Nambu mechanics and noncanonical Hamiltonian mechanics. Nambu mechanics is extended to incompressible ideal hydrodynamical fields using energy and hel...
